Prettiest Shoes

I went into Claire's (yes, the little girls jewellery store!) the other day with my daughter and found the most beautiful shoes.

Beautiful gladiator sandals!!

They have a lot of floral items in store, but these are the prettiest.

I wore them and got so many compliments.

They are my favourite, but what I love is that they look sophisticated enough so you don't look like you are wearing shoes from a little girls shop.

Have fun shopping.

Shabby Chic Dresser

When I first saw this dresser on kijiji I saw great potential,  I saw what it could be.

It has amazing lines, and was just what I was looking for.  There is something classic about a 3 drawer dresser and it's perfectly sized for the small wall area I was using.

I was unsure about the handles, so I took them off and filled the holes. I knew it called for a little decoration.  I found what I wanted on ebay, and also online, http://www.doityourselfchic.com/ .  I chose a perfect little piece for the top drawer.

Easy to do, apply with glue, tape it into position and wait.  I taped and waited and began painting.  Since the walls are cream I chose Benjamin Moore Pearl Snowfall White, a perfect bright white.  Great paint, a sheen (which I find works best with furniture) and easy application.  I painted 2 coats in a few hours and then decided on handles.

I found what I wanted at Home Depot.  I looked at Lee Valley Hardware, & Anthropologie but Home Depot had handles that matched the vintage look of the dresser.

I think it all came together well.

The applique makes it work.

The knobs look vintage and suit the dresser perfectly.  I never would have guessed I would find these at Home Depot.

It's a funny wall.  It has a 3 light switch, the doorbell, an empty switch panel and the thermostat.  To hide this is impossible so I added enough to make all that the last thing you notice.

I am in love with the convenience, the way it turned out, and how perfectly it fits the wall.

A cloche from Urban Outfitters on a silver dish given to my parents when they wed.  When I saw the cloche I knew it would fit perfectly.

All this work was worth it.

Until next time,
Patricia

White wonders

I have  previously  mentioned my plants but lately one is just outstanding.  My gardenia is flowering and the scent is heavenly. These beautiful blossoms look like roses when they first open.

This beauty is barely touched by the smell which just floats on the air.

I feed my plants once a week, which may be why I'm getting such great blossoms.

(There was a white octopus as well but I chose this cute green one)

I'm moving furniture around and trying to see what works.  I like a table behind the couch for the smell of the gardenia and a light.  I got this table in a flower shop flood for $10.00 (same flood as the previous posting).

I love the industrial edge, rusty details and clear shelves.

I'm still working on things.

Trying to figure out what works and what doesn't.

Let me know what you think.....

Until next time,
Patricia

Rethinking it all

My house has had a lot of change in the past week.  Last weekend my antique cabinet was purchased and went out the door opening up a lot of (much needed) room on the main floor.

It was beautiful but too big for a small room.

Brad Kitt had to try it out before it went.

I gave my china away so I don't really need a cabinet for it, more for candles, kitchen stuff, & treasures.  I purchased a great 3 drawer dresser that fits and has a lot of potential.

Not everyone saw the potential right away.  I love how it is getting some of my kitchen stuff organized.

As soon as I get time I am painting this piece since brown has no appeal for me.

My Mom moved out this week, making a big change everywhere.  I have organizing to do it feels like in every room but I will get to it.  I moved into her now vacant large room today and brought up a favourite table.

I found it in a flooded flower shop, ankle deep in water, paid $5.00 and ran!  the bottoms of the legs were moldy so they had to be cut off.  It's crooked.......  (seems like it should answer to the name lucky! ) but I love it.

I have a lot of work to do to get my room together and get my painting done but when I do you will be the first to see it.

Until next time

Chaos Theory

I haven't blogged for a while because the house is in a bit of chaos.  Last week a painter came and took care of all of the high and difficult spots and now the house glows.  We went from matte brown to creamy white and the results are incredible.

A gloss paint was used and the effect of sunlight and lamps and even candles just amplifies the beauty of this paint.

In the midst of the painting is packing.  No, not me, my Mom.  She is in love, has met a nice man and is making a new life.  I'm happy for her, but I will miss her.

I am lucky this mothers day, I have a great Mom who is also my friend, and  a sweet creative daughter. I had been told there would be no children for me, so my daughter is a miracle, which when the teen years roll around I sometimes forget!! There is not much to complain about in my life.

I have been looking for a towel bar for the newly painted bathroom and I had purchased a perfectly modern silver rod but yesterday at a builders re-store I found what I really wanted.

This was probably from some 70's house and reviled by the new owners.  I am amazed it wasn't thrown in a landfill.

Perfectly chippy, charming and baroque!

In the midst of all this chaos we did make time to go to my favourite store Wellington, I'm still thinking about this.

For now I just enjoy this picture.

Until next time,
Patricia
