Starting fresh

Thanks for checking out my blog.  I am a mom of 1 sweet teenager, Julia, and 1 sweet cat Lovey.  Years ago we were starting out and our mortgage and expenses ate all our money and I had to somehow create a home without any resources.  It made me get creative to get the look I wanted.  I figured out where to spend and where to save. I also discovered that white paint can fix almost anything and make your home look cool and fresh in the summer and warm and inviting in the winter.  It's a look I have had for over a decade (inspired as many have been by Rachel Ashwell - love her) and continue to this day.
My favourite find and creation is this, my $5.00 dresser

It was a garage sale find, it was spray painted "make it stone" beige and it was too much of a sanding job for me.  I painted the structure creamy white (Benjamin Moore Cloud White - cc40) and then got so impatient to finish I wallpapered the drawers;

This is an anaglypta wallpaper, I think Debbie Travis at Canadian tire has some in stock.  I love the dreamy effect it gives and it sped up the transformation for me too!!  I went to ebay and found the crystal drawer pulls but they can be found at Lee Valley Hardware without the shipping cost.

This is at my previous house (which I loved).  I love this dresser, it has always gone in the living room or dining room (this was Christmas 06)

This dressser will show up a lot as it is my all time favourite creation.  It was luck, laziness and good supplies hanging around that made it end up looking like this.  I want to thank Linda at http://paintedwhyte.blogspot.com/ who saw this dresser and encouraged me to start this blog.

Until next time, Patricia
